CO2 compensation project
on behalf of JTI Vietnam

JTI (Vietnam) Pte Ltd. wish to offset and compensate CO2 emissions generated by the production of their products, and at the same time create additional value for small rural communities in Vietnam.

To this end, WSS and JTI agreed on CO2 capture, compensation and storage services that are suitable for reducing JTI’s CO2 footprint, and at the same time create additional value for Vietnam’s environment, biodiversity and the wellbeing of local dwellers.

To compensate the carbon emission of JTI:

  • 3 hectare of bamboo plantation in Thanh Hoa province has been planted and taken care, which is equivalent to 156 tons of CO2 to be sequestrated on a yearly basis.

  • 30~40 tons of low-quality bamboo was buried underground in 2021 and in 2022, which compensated for 45 tons and 46 tons of CO2e in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Supporting local communities is at the core of WSS’s carbon capture activities. This project in cooperation with JTI is actively creating income for local institutions and communities as well as improving local environmental conditions, hence contributing to 5 Sustainable Development Goals:

  • #3 Good Health and Well-Being

  • #6 Clean Water and Sanitation

  • #11 Sustainable Cities and Communities

  • #13 Climate Action

  • #15 Life on Land (Biodiversity)

Volunteer days

Since 2020, Carbon Solutions International – Water Solutions South-East Asia has been holding different volunteer activities annually for volunteers from JTI Vietnam and Vinataba.

On July 22, 2022, despite the challenging weather conditions, volunteers from JTI Vietnam and Vinataba showed great enthusiasm by actively participating in a variety of activities at Thanh Tam Eco Park in Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa Province.

Additionally, volunteers spent time participating in bamboo plantation nursing activities to help support the local environment. Overall, the volunteers' dedication and hard work made a significant positive impact on the community and the environment.
