🌴 BEN TRE'S COCONUT SHELLS: A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR CARBON SEQUESTRATION 🌴
On 2nd March 2023, the representatives of Carbon Solutions International Mr. Frank Pogade and Ms. Trang Nguyen had a great opportunity to discuss with the Department of Investment and Planning in Ben Tre Province, Vietnam, to investigate possibilities for producing biochar from coconut shells.
Ben Tre is famous for its coconut products, and with over 75,000 ha of coconuts, there is a huge opportunity to turn coconut shells into a useful resource for carbon sequestration.
Biochar is a type of charcoal that is produced from organic material, such as coconut shells. Its ability to enclose and store carbon in the soil long-term lowers greenhouse gas emissions and enhances the health of the soil.
By producing biochar from coconut shells in Ben Tre Province, we can create a new source of revenue for local farmers and remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere at the same time.
Additionally, because biochar has the ability to sequester carbon, we can produce carbon credits that may be sold to businesses and organizations that want to reduce their carbon footprint.
